Description

  • Andreas Feininger
  • 'The Photojournalist' (Dennis Stock)
  • Gelatin silver print
signed in ink and with credit, title, date, copyright, and annotations in pencil, and edition stamp, with number '33/50 + 10' in pencil, on the reverse, framed, 1955, printed in 1992 (Andreas Feininger, p. 77)

Provenance

Christie's New York, 12 February 2003, Sale 1199, Lot 171

Condition

This print, on double-weight paper, is in generally excellent condition. A few small, very faint surface scratches that do not appear to break the emulsion are visible mainly in the lower left quadrant. There is also a small deposit of indeterminate nature, possibly original retouching, in the same area. When examined under high raking light, silvering is visible along the outer edges of the image. The left and right edges are somewhat rippled. The right margin edge is gently bumped, with minor resultant chipping. Along the edges on the reverse are abrasions and 6 linen tape remnants. The annotations in pencil read as follows: 'Print made in Time-Life Photo Lab, 1992,' '© Time Warner Inc., All Rights Reserved,' 'The Photojournalist, 1955 by Andreas Feininger,' '33/50 + 10,' and 'I0002720.'
