Description

  • A pair of pink ground enamel reversible candlesticks, South Staffordshire, circa 1780
  • ename, copper, gilt metal
  • 29cm., 11 3/8 in. high
each reversing into a knopped mantel ornament, ovoid form painted with rustic subjects, the ground with dark blue and gilt details, on columnar stands with square stepped bases and four ball feet, gilt metal mounts and applied garland handles

Condition

extensive restoration and discoloration to pink enamel, chips and cracks to painted subjects. one swag loose on a candlestick, another detached on the second candlestick. One gilt nozzle mount without its shaft. Rare colour for such a shape.
