Catalogue Note
The present model is based on a centrepiece originally produced by Sèvres for the use of Napoleon and was included in the Grand Service de l'Empereur commissioned in 1807. The form itself is based on the antique unearthed at the Villa Adriana, Tivoli which was brought to the Louvre in 1797. A pair of this form from the collection of Gianni Versace was sold at Sotheby's London, 18th March 2009, lot 274.
