The sheet appears sound. The upper edge of the sheet is perforated, consistent with the sheet possibly having been taken from the artist's sketchbook. There are some minor instances of light surface dirt, wear and one or two very small soft creases around the edges of the sheet, with some further light creases and handling marks to the sheet in places. There may be some discolouration to the sheet, particularly towards the edges. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. The work is presented in a dark wooden frame, float mounted against a cream backing card and held behind glass. In 1961, Trevelyan was invited to visit Russia by an old Cambridge friend, Ralph Parker (previously Moscow correspondent for The Times, but then a member of the Russian diplomatic service). Through Parker, Mary and Julian met officially recognised Russian artists and were given access to areas which were usually closed to tourists. They even spent an afternoon in the company of Guy Burgess (a contemporary of Julian's at Cambridge).
