Condition

The canvas has not been lined. Ultra-violet light reveals a vertical line of retouching along the centre left edge corresponding to an old repair (7 by 5cm. patch on the reverse), small spots in the far lower and upper left corners (4 by 4cm. patch on the reverse) and in the far upper right corner. Fine strokes of strengthening are also visible in the in sky towards the centre and in the sky and dunes towards the right edge. The general appearance of the work is good and the picture is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with a nameplate. Colours in the catalogue illustration are less red and more yellow overall, and the picture is somewhat lighter.
