Catalogue Note
Ces verseuses ont été offertes à Charles Christmas par August Belmont (1813-1890), célèbre banquier new yorkais et philanthrope d'origine allemande, connu comme The King of Fifth Avenue. Après avoir fait ses études à Francfort, il entre au service de la famille Rothschild à Francfort puis à Naples et enfin à New York dès 1837. De 1844 à 1850, il est consul général d'Autriche à New York. Lorsqu'il part à la Haye en 1853 comme ambassadeur des Etats-Unis, Charles Christmas prend en charge ses intérêts.
