Provenance
In the collection of the present owner's family probably since at least the 1960s.
Condition
The canvas has been lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is only slightly discoloured and uneven. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals relatively little intervention - some sensitive retouching along the horizontal beam, upper left and centre; in the ceiling, upper centre and right; in the darks of the fireplace, right; and around the face and arm of the figure of the man leaning on the table, left. In overall good condition.
