Condition
Overall the condition of the bust is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The foliate decoration on the proper right side of the base is slightly loose. There is some tarnishing to the silver, in particular around the crevices. There is also some tarnishing to the gilding, particularly above and below the centrepiece. There are a few minor nicks and scratches, notably to the beard and the eyebrow on the proper right side of the face, and to the top of the base around the bust. There is some greening to the gilt bronze in areas, notably to the centrepiece at the front on the proper left side and to the foliage decoration on the proper right side.

Catalogue Note
The present bust compares well with reliquary busts that have been attributed to the Viennese goldsmith Joseph Moser, who was patronised by Empress Maria Theresia (r. 1740-1780).
