Overall the condition of the wood is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. Both wings of the Angel are lost. The proper left lower arm is carved separately and a slightly open but stable joint is visible. There is some stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, including to the Angel's proper left side, to his back, around his proper left ankle, and to the base. Both the gilding and the white paint have been refreshed at a later date. Some of the flaking of the earlier paintwork is visible underneath the later layer. There is some wear also to the current paintwork, including flaking to the top of the head and to the back. The gilding is applied in a painterly manner, revealing the red ground in areas. There is a small area of loss to the gilding on the proper right side of the base. There is some light staining to the white paint in several areas. There is minor evidence of past worming, notably at the back. There is a minor loss to the drapery in front of the proper right foot. There is some red paint to a lock of hair on the proper left side of the head.
