  • walnut, on associated gilt and polychromed wood brackets

Condition

Overall the condition of the busts is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age. The busts are carved in sections, and some stable joints are slightly visible. There is also minor stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, including a few slightly open splits. There are a few minor losses, including to one of the busts' hair and a small chip to the tip of the nose. There is minor evidence of past worming to the busts. There is an old metal pin to one of the busts above the scroll. There is a modern metal hoop to each reverse to facilitate hanging. The wall brackets are in good condition with minor dirt and wear, including to the paintwork and gilding.
