Private collection, Ireland, since the 18th century
Condition
Overall, the condition of the bronze is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is particular dirt in the crevices. There is some rubbing to the lacquer patina, particularly at the high points. There is also some minor flaking to the lacquer patina in areas, including to the back of the legs. The bronze was cast in sections, and joints are very slightly visible at the upper arms and to the drapery on the proper right shoulder. There are several nicks and scratches, notably to the proper leg, to the proper right elbow, and to the proper left arm and wrist. The bronze is attached to the wood base with a metal bolt, which has caused some warping to the integral bronze base of the figure.
There is some dirt and wear to the ebonised wood base, including nicks and scratches. There is a loss to the bottom corner on the left side at the back, and there is some rubbing to the edges and corners. There are small holes to two sides of the base, where now-lost metal mounts were attached. The top of the base consists of sections. There is some tarnishing to the remaining metal mounts.
