Catalogue Note

The present albarello can be compared to a well known group of similar drug jars, attributed to Deruta and dated 1507 to the reverse, published by J. Giacomotti, Catalogue des majoliques des musées nationaux, Paris 1974, p. 114, nos. 414-417. The initials LP on the reverse possibly refer to an apothecary's mark. Dia, or diacassia or diachassia, is the prefix indicating that the drug was made of the following ingredients, in this case Calamento or Calamenthum, the Common Calaminth.
