  • German or Netherlandish, probably Lower Rhine, early 16th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good, with wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is some evidence of past worming, including to the forehead and around the bottom. There is minor stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material. The gathered fold of the cloth above the proper right hand may have been reattached. There appear to be some remnants of polychromy, or a ground for polychromy, on the reverse. There are a few minor losses along the edges, including to Veronica's headdress. The underside is lined with green felt.
