Condition

Overall the condition of the shell cameo is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, including some dirt to the hair. There are some nicks to the mount.

Catalogue Note

The present model is close (though with minor differences) to a medal made in 1814 by Bertrand Andrieu, which is the model for an onyx cameo is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. no. 40.20.25). Note also the cameo sold in these rooms on 4 December 2013, lot 96.
