Description

  • Southern Netherlandish, Liège, 17th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age, with dust in the crevices. The hands are carved separately and are probably replacements. The tail of the dragon is lost. There is some stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, notably open splits with fill to the proper right shoulder and to the proper left foot of the Saint and the dragon's haunches; the latter may be the result of a knot in the wood. There is also an open split to the terrasse between the dragon's front legs. There are a few minor losses, notably one to the swirl of drapery around the proper right hip, probably due to a knot in the wood. There is minor evidence of past worming, notably to the Saint's proper left foot and the dragon's haunches. There is a small hole to the drapery beside the Saint's waist on the proper left side, which is particularly visible at the back.
