Description
- Charles Martin Powell
- Shipping in a storm; Shipping in choppy waters; and Shipping in a calm
- the latter two signed lower left and right: CMPowell
- three, all oil on oak panel
Condition
The panels are flat, stable and uncradled. The paint surfaces are clean and the varnishes are clear and even. The paintings are in overall very good condition. They are offered in carved gilt wood frames, with some cracks, but in good condition.
Shipping in a storm: There is a vertical hairline crack in the paint surface, approx. 9 cm. long, running down from the upper margin, approx. 8 cm. from the left margin. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to this crack, and minimal spot retouching in the sky, to the left.
Shipping in choppy waters: Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to a horizontal hairline crack in the paint surface, approx. 3 cm. long, upper left. There is also minor spot retouching in the sky, and a slightly larger spot between the two ships, centre left.
Shipping in a calm: Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to two horizontal hairline cracks in the paint surface, measuring approx. 1 and 2 cm. each, from the left margin, upper and lower centre. There is no other intervention.
