the second signed lower centre: Fr. Ferg fe - a pair, both oil on copper
Provenance
Sale, Munich, Hugo Helbing, 17–18 March 1926, lot 280 (according to mount in the Witt Library, London).
Condition
The copper plates are flat and stable, the paint surfaces are slightly dirty, and the varnishes are rather discoloured. The details in both paintings are very well-preserved, and they are both in overall very good condition.
The former: There is a small patch of retouching in the sky, upper left, and further spot retouchings, which have discoloured, in the clouds, upper right (visible in the catalogue illustration). These tiny areas fluoresce under ultraviolet light, but there is otherwise no intervention.
The latter: There are small spot retouchings in the sky above the tree on the left, and in the sky and clouds to the right of the building. There is also some frame abrasion on the right upper margin, which has been retouched. These all fluoresce under ultraviolet light, but there is no other intervention.
