Catalogue Note
According to the stamped inscription on the verso of this sheet, this work formerly belonged to Susan, Baroness North. Her mother, Susan, Countess of Guilford, was the daughter of the banker Thomas Coutts and one of Fuseli's greatest supporters. The artist was a regular visitor to the Countess' home at Putney Hill, Surrey and, over the years, the family assembled an important collection of his work. We would like to thank Professor Weinglass for his help when cataloging this work.
