  • A sheet of various pen and ink sketches including a winged putto, two caricatural head studies, a branch of a tree and three nude figure studies
  • Pen and brown ink;
    bears inscription in pen and brown ink upper right:  Rembrant and also bears later inscription in pencil on the reverse of the mount:  Rembrandts

Condition

Laid down. Both top right and left corners of the sheet have been made up. A couple of small black stains, possibly studio stains. Pen and ink writing or drawing on the verso is slightly visible on the recto. Pen and ink remains strong and vibrant.

Catalogue Note

This interesting group of studies gives us an insight into Testa's working methods and demonstrates a number of imaginative rapid sketches.  These sketches are reminiscent of some of the studies used in Testa's prints of the mid 1630s.
