Catalogue Note
This drawing is stylistically similar to a double-sided sheet in the Louvre, which can be attributed to Tribolo with certainty, as the recto is a study for his well-documented bronze figure of Pan, now in the Bargello, and the verso is a study for his Fountain of Aesculapius in the gardens of the Villa Medici at Castello.1 The present work shows the influence of Jacopo Sansovino, which suggests a date between 1529 and 1536, when Tribolo was in Venice with Benvenuto Cellini.
