Description

  • wool, flatweave tapestry technique
  • approximately 300cm. high, 240cm. wide; 9ft. 10in., 7ft. 10in.
woven with a man trapping a hare, in a woodland clearing, with château in the distance, within a four-sided border of flowers, grapes, birds and cherubs, with baskets of fruit and parrots in each lower corner and winged putti and acanthus leaves in each top corner, the horizontal borders centred with a cartouche enclosing a landscape

Condition

Tapestry is lined with cotton backing and presently has a sleeve across the top edge for a pole. It is recommended that Velcro should be added for hanging purposes in the future. There are some small repairs and some splits in places (for example to highlights of the sky). Stable condition overall. Decorative tapestry of a good size as not too large.
