Description

  • Pair of putti
  • bronze, on ebonised wood socles
  • Italian, 19th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronzes is good, with dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age. The proper right thumb of one of the putti is lost, probably as the result of a casting flaw. There are several lacunae due to casting flaws, including to one of the putti's fingers on the proper right hand and to the backs, notably the back of the proper left leg of one of the putti. The backs of the putti appear to have been cast separately. There is particular dirt in the crevices. There is some rubbing to the lacquer patina at the high points. There is wear to the paintwork on the socles with some losses. There are a few minor chips to the wood and there is a small circular hole to one of the socles.
