the mounts with crowned eagle thumbpiece, enamelled with the Bismarck coat of arms below gothic script inscription, one inscribed,'Viel tausend Tropfen gehen in diesen mächtigen Krug. Es lehrt ihn wohl kein Zecher auf einen einzigen Zug‘ , the other inscribed 'Es sitzt ein Fürst im deutschen Reich,/ Dem Keiner kommt an Ehren gleich,/ Und wem sein Glas ich füllen soll,/ Der leer’s auf dieses Fürsten Wohl.', with a badge beneath the handle with inscription 'Zwiesel, im Bayerwald' above two rows of applied prunts on a spreading hollow moulded foot

Each jug is likely to originally have had a lid which is now lacking. One jug has chips to the ends of two of the applied strands on the underside of the body.
