A large Italian silver lampada, Rome, town mark only, probably early 20th century

Description

  • 110cm., 43 1/4 in. high
typical form with lyre handle, the burner cast with four classical masks each supporting a light, between baluster urn supports chased with acanthus and husk swags, all raised on a spreading circular fluted base chased with foliate swags and acanthus decoration, detachable screen terminating with eagle masks, four various pendant attachments, four associated shades

Condition

Most pieces stamped with maker's mark only. One attachment on chain is absent. The screen is separated from the stem. There is a split, break in the silver, only noticeable during deconstruction. Later converted to electricity. Otherwise generally good condition with light surface wear. Metal rod running through centre hence no weight given.
