Catalogue Note

The name Henry and princely coronet are probably for Prince Henry of Bourbon-Parma, Count of Bardi (1851-1905). He was the son of Duke Charles III and Princess Louise d'Artois, grand-daughter of Charles X, the last Bourbon to be King of France. Henry and his second wife Adelgundes were the owners of the palazzo Ca' Vendramin Calergi on the Grand Canal in Venice. They hosted the family of Richard Wagner at their palazzo beginning in September 1882, and the famous German composer died there the following February.
