Condition
The canvas has been relined, the paint surface is slightly dirty and the varnish has darkened a bit. The painting is in overall fair condition. There are some small areas of paint that are beginning to flake above the sitter's head and in the lower right corner, but they appear stable. There are some very small discoloured patches of retouching to the right of the sitter and in the very top of the foliage, upper left. Inspection under ultraviolet light is hindered by the opacity of the varnish and only reveals retouching to the aforementioned blemishes.
