Description
- Francesco Foschi
- A pair of evening coastal landscapes of natural harbours with rocky promontories and ships at anchor
- a pair, both oil on canvas
Condition
The former: the canvas has been relined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is rather discoloured. There are recent small, discoloured retouchings throughout the painting, most notably in the banks on either side of the path, lower left, in the centre of the water, in the cliff above the two figures, centre right, and in the sky, upper right. The largest of these retouchings measures approx. 1 by 3 cm. Ultraviolet light also reveals unobtrusive retouching along all four margins.
The latter: the canvas has been relined, and the paint surface is relatively clean. There are two patches of discoloured retouching in the sky, measuring approx. 2 by 3 cm. each, above the ships and upper left, as well as scattered spot retouchings throughout the sky. There is extensive retouching to the upper right corner and along the upper margin, measuring approx. 4 cm. at its greatest width, as well as retouching to the other three corners and margins.
