Description

  • Three mortars and four pestles
  • copper alloy
  • Italian, 18th/ 19th century
together with an Italian blue glass spherical finial, 20th century 

Condition

Overall the condition of the mortars and pestles is good, with wear and some dirt consistent with age. There is some dryness including flaking to the lacquer patinas of the mortars, and general wear to the metal consistent with use. There are also various nicks, and nicks to the pestles throughout. There is some corrosion to the inside of the large mortar. There is some rubber residue around the outer bodies of the mortars. There are several chips to the glass ball and a large unstable loss to the bottom, with several loose pieces. There is corrosion to the metal rod at the centre.
