Description
- Silver on Brass
comprising: altar cross and stand, the detachable cross applied with Christ, 112.4cm., 44 1/4 in. high, four large pricket candlesticks, 81.2cm., 32in. high, four smaller candlesticks, 54.5cm., 21 1/2 in. high, the knopped baluster triangular columns all chased with ornate strapwork and scrolls, on three stepped scrolling feet, and three graduating frames, centred with religious text on paper, one large and two small, ornate cartouche form, chased with ornate foliate and shell scrolls, largest 49.6cm., 19 1/2 in. high. Condition
All candlesticks, frames and alter cross showing signs of significant wear. Much of the silver has worn away leaving the yellow base metal. Five of the candlesticks are significantly damages at the lower junctions with multiple splits and holes. In one case detached completely. There are also various splits and holes at other points. One of the small alter sticks with all three feet splayed unevenly. The frames again rubbed but in better condition; a few holding pins missing but generally commensurate with age.
