Description
- Ash, ebony, fruitwood, ivory (Loxodonta Africana), amboyna.
- 20cm. high, 35cm. wide, 6cm. deep; 7¾in., 1ft. 1¾in., 2½in.
of rectangular form with a raised top above two doors enclosing a hinged chessboard, with ebony and ivory counters and 32 ebony and ivory chess pieces, dominoes, 4 boxes and 4 markers, 4 brass dishes, 3 dice, a shaking cup, 2 packs of cards, 3 score cards, a box of travelling cards, and 3 boxes with a pull-out tray, one with green counters, one ivory counters and one red counters

Condition
In overall very good conserved condition. There is a small sticky residue on the top probably from sellotape which can easily be cleaned off.

The firm of Serra was started by Mario Serra, who was asked by Mappin & Webb, the English jewellers, to open a subsidiary in Rome. In 1924, he decided to set up his own business and began to purchase innovative and interesting items for his store. Serra then became aa supplier to Romes aristocrats and the supplier to the Royal House.
