Description

  • Rosewood, Brazilian (Dalbergia nigra), fruitwood, parcel-gilt, gilt-bronze
  • 21cm. high, 60cm. wide, 40cm. deep; 8¼in., 1ft. 11¾in. 1ft. 3¾in.; 20cm. high, 52cm. wide, 35cm. deep; 7¾in., 1ft. 1ft 8¾in. 1ft. 1¾in.;
of rectangular form, centred by a crown above the letters MS,  together with an Italian lacquered a merletto and parcel-gilt casket, Venetian, 20th century, the rectangular top with a coat-of-arms of Princes Orsini and the other Sacchetti, centred by a roundel with roses within stylised winged mermaids and sea monsters, on scrolled feet, with a gilt-bronze handle on each side

Condition

Rosewood casket: In overall good conserved condition. Colour slightly darker overall and more natural and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. There is a hairline horizontal crack at the top of the left side when facing which some miniscule veer losses nearby which are hardly noticeable. Old very minor marks and chips commensurate with age which do not detract from the piece. Lacquered casket: In overall good conserved condition. The left handle is off but present and the loops that hold it in place are not complete but these can easily be replaced. Hairline construction crack in the side of the top which is not too noticeable. Some very minor wear to red border on the top.
