Catalogue Note
Budé's treatise on coinage (first published in 1514) was republished frequently during the sixteenth century. It aimed to be a comprehensive treatise on ancient coins and measures together with reflections on the value of money to modern society. It was much praised at the time and made Budé's humanist reputation, though Erasmus found it hard to read.
