Catalogue Note
Lazius (1514-1565) was curator of the imperial collections in Vienna. The Emperor Ferdinand had amassed a substantial collection of classical coins, and this is one of several works he commissioned to catalogue his holdings. Jacopo Strada was sent a copy of the text which he criticised in no uncertain terms because of Lazius's incompetence in interpreting the coins, which was later confirmed by Agustín.
