Trevor Yeung

Born in 1988 in Guangdong Province, China, Yeung graduated from the
Academy of Visual Arts of the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2010. Yeung
is considered an experimental, multimedia artist and his practice uses
botanic ecology, horticulture, photography and installations as metaphors
that reference the emancipation of everyday aspirations towards human
relationships. A characteristic element of Yeung’s mixed media art is that he
presents his works in a way which is meant to be shared. The works very often
represent an account of his personal obsession with mapping the aesthetic
relation between everyday materials, be they plants (bonsai), fish or birds.
Through observation and contemplation, he situates them and himself
within a network of evolving objects, images and experiences to provoke a
unique experience that viewers can partake in. Yeung recently participated
in exhibitions including “CHINA 8” at MKM Museum Küppersmühle für
Moderne Kunst in Germany (2015) and Shanghai Biennale 2014 in China.
Yeung was one of the 3 shortlisted artists in BMW Art Journey award with
his solo exhibition “Garden Cruising: It’s not easy being green” from the
DISCOVERIES section at Art Basel Hong Kong 2015.

As the focal point of the series, a big potted plant is placed in
front of an image to imitate how one’s view is often obstructed
by other objects in real life. As the visitors navigate the space for
a better view of the artworks, it induces spontaneous seeing and
reveals another dimension of the relationship between the viewer
and the being viewed.
