Catalogue Note
An artist living in Hong Kong, Angela Su received a degree in Biochemistry
from the University of Toronto in 1990 before obtaining a visual arts degree
from the Ontario College of Art in 1994 and pursuing art as a career. Her
artworks reflect her fascination with living bodies and explore human
anatomy and existence. Working in a variety of media, Su adopts existing
scientific beliefs and systems to create works that prompt us to contemplate
our own being and existence in space and time. Her interpretation of the
human body is often depicted in raw, elaborate anatomical drawings that
combine the precision of scientific sketches with elements of alchemy and
fantasy to form a beautiful yet slightly disturbing vision of living organisms.
Flowers, insects and the human figure are recurring themes in her works
and intricate compositions. She has held solo exhibitions in Singapore and
Hong Kong and has participated in group exhibitions including the Shenzhen
Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism in Shenzhen and at the Museum
of Contemporary Art in Shanghai. Su is also represented by a variety of
esteemed galleries in Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
