Lee Kit

Born in Hong Kong in 1978, Lee Kit currently lives and works in Hong Kong

and Taipei. Kit graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003

and completed a Master's of Fine Arts degree in 2008. He works in a broad

range of media including painting, drawing, video and installation and focuses

on the human experience by highlighting ordinary, daily rituals of people's

lives. Kit demonstrates how we are all reflected in our homes and basic acts

of living by using personal items or things to reflect our idiosyncrasies and

habits. For example, a hole in one of Lee's works came from his habit of being

unable to stop scratching the table surface during conversations. He is best

known for his hand-painted cloths, which he has produced for more than a

decade and present utilitarian objects with traces of their use and story while

simultaneously presenting them as objects of fine art. Kit was awarded the

Art Futures award in 2012 and was selected to represent Hong Kong at the

55th Venice Biennale with his installation, You (you) (2013), a homelike space

that also served as a self-portrait. He has done multiple solo exhibitions

around the world as well as group exhibitions at the Shanghai Biennale, the

Museum of Modern Art, New Museum, Frieze Art Fair and Tate Modern.
