Catalogue Note

Hua Shou's text on acupuncture was first published in 1341 and it was widely acknowledged as the standard text on acupuncture. The woodcuts depict the centres for acupuncture and the text explains the Yin and Yang through the arms and legs, the circulation of the breath of life through the fourteen meridians, and the eight vital blood vessels.

For a seventeenth-century commentary on Hua Shou's work, see lot 82.
