Catalogue Note

RARE. Drawings by Celan are of great rarity at auction.

The Austrian art historian and poet Klaus Demus, and his wife Nani, were among Celan's closest friends. Klaus, the dedicatee of Celan's poem "Die Krüge", was indeed famously described by Celan in 1951 as his only friend.
