the vocal score, notated in dark brown ink on up to twelve staves per page (the arias on four or five two-stave systems, the duets on three-stave systems and the choruses on six-stave systems), the arias sometimes incorporating the vocal line and the violins on the same staves, with cues for the spoken dialogue, with an elaborate calligraphic title page and index at end, some decorations, based on the first edition vocal score by Schott of Mainz (1785)
202 pages, including title and index, oblong 4to (c.23 x 31.5cm), contemporary boards, engraved bookplate ("Wagner"), early ownership inscription on title ("Sturzenbaum"), modern chemise and green-gilt morocco slipcase, the original binding very worn, spine and covers defective, some staining (well-thumbed in places), tear to page 31/32
