Catalogue Note

Gerli was an architect and an artist. The first treatise is on balloon flight, as Agostino and his brothers carried out the first successful balloon flight in Italy in 1784, which took place in front of the dedicatee of this volume, the imperial plenipotentiary in Milan, Johann Joseph Wilczek. Other sections deal with decorative innovations devised by Gerli and his brother-in-law, the sculptor Gaetano Callani.
