Catalogue Note
Two copies of this book in the British Library have similar red morocco bindings with the same outer roll-tooled floral border (reproduced in Hobson, English Bindings in the Library of J.R. Abbey, p. 112); while it can be surmised that all these bindings were produced in-house, there is no direct evidence to link them to the Foulis workshop. M.J. Sommerlad, in his handlist of Scottish bindings in the Bodleian Library (Oxford Bibliographical Society Occasional Publication no.1, 1967), opines that Scottish bindings of this period were all executed in Edinburgh.
