Catalogue Note

These somewhat surreal poems originally appeared in issues of La Vogue in May-June 1886 (see lot 196), and were then reprinted in book form in October that year. Many of the poems had been written during Rimbaud's stay in England in the early 1870s with Paul Verlaine, who had the poems published as Rimbaud had moved to Abyssinia.
