Catalogue Note

FIRST EDITION. The first four books of Apollonius's Conics had been published and Viviani here tried to reconstruct what the fifth book might have contained. At around the same time, an Arabic translation of Apollonius, containing seven books, was found in the Medici library, but publication was delayed until after Viviani's work was made public.
