3 volumes, folio (353 x 230mm.), contemporary Roman limp vellum gilt, probably by the Soresini bindery, with the arms of Cardinal Peretti di Montalto, flat spines gilt, gilt edges, occasional foxing or browning (severe in the Elogia), upper hinges broken, lacking all silk ties

Catalogue Note

A mixed edition of the complete works of Giovio. The series of portraits of literary men includes many of the scholars that worked for Aldus Manutius (see passim in this catalogue). 

For bindings with similar tools, see Legatura romana barocca 1575-1700, plate 11 (dated 1595). The arms also contain the Aldobrandini arms inset at the top, as the Peretti family had supported the election of Clement VIII Aldobrandini (ruled 1592-1605).
