Condition
The image is slightly too bright : in reality, this bookcase is actually a little darker and more elegant than on the picture. As said, the lacquer has been slightly retouched in places ; two vertical cracks on the left panel. Veneer partly redone, in good overall condition except tiny losses in places and a few lifts on the base of the left side. As mentioned in the catalogue, some bronzes added later, in good overall condition.

Catalogue Note
L'emploi de panneaux en laque de Chine à fond rouge disposés dans des encadrements de bois de placage (bois de rose ou satiné) apparait sur des meubles des années 1740-1760, le plus souvent sur des meubles de grande taille comme des bibliothèques, armoires ou cabinet. Les panneaux s'intègrent ici parfaitement au meuble comme sur le plus célèbre d'entre eux : la grande armoire livrée pour Machault d'Arnouville par B.V.R.B. vers 1755 actuellement conservée au musée du château de Versailles (inv. V5090). Cette esthétique rappelle le goût pour les laques à fond rouge en vogue au XVIIIe siècle.
