Condition

The illustration is accurate. Good overall condition despite the inevitable scratches and marks throughout. Both constructions are firm and sound. Three back uprights and an arm rest have been (nicely) restored. The end of a foot has been restored. A minor horizontal shrinkage crack on a back (visible on the illustration). The leather is in good condition.

Georges Jacob, menuisier reçu maître en 1765

La silhouette générale de ces sièges, à l'exception des pieds antérieurs, est à rapprocher de ceux également livrés par Georges Jacob pour la marquise de Marbeuf. Lors de son inventaire après-décès en 1795, dans la salle à manger du premier étage, étaient estimés « douze fauteuils et douze chaises en bois d'acajou de forme antique avec siège foncé en crin couvert de quinze seize bleu uni prisé ensemble mille livres ».
