Condition
The image is quite accurate, although the painting is actually more blue.
The painting is quite worn, especially on the more exposed areas.
As visible on the image, there are several scattered chips.
However, it has not altered the quality of the carving, which is deep and lavish (the flowers and the palms are very finely carved).
The structure is sound.
The upholstery is extensively worn.
Ample model and well-balanced proportions, very attractive.

Catalogue Note
Jean Avisse, menuisier reçu maître en 1745
Jean Avisse (1723-1796), dont l'atelier était situé rue de Cléry à Paris, fournit d'abord les tapissiers et les marchands-merciers. Sa réputation et son talent lui permirent vite d'avoir une clientèle prestigieuse telle que la marquise de Chabannes, la comtesse de Fontenay et le chevalier de Lamotte.
Il fit appel les meilleurs sculpteurs de son temps pour ses sièges les plus aboutis comme Jean-François Baillard, Pierre Rousseau et Claude Vinache. Il collabora aussi occasionnellement avec le sculpteur Nicolas Heurtaut.
