The MASTER OF MS ARIANE 1 proves to be a master of colour. Characteristic is the predominant use of white that is occasionally shaded with dark blue and highlighted with lemon yellow. A subtle relationship is also established between the main image for the Office of the Dead and the trompe l’oeil border that features not only white pansies but also a skull and a bone referring to mortality.
