Description

  • Henri-Pierre Danloux
  • Portrait of a lady
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The painting overall is in good condition. The canvas is unlined and remains firmly stretched and the paint surface is clean beneath a clear varnish. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals minor cosmetic feathered retouching scattered in the background and to the left and lower edges. There is a larger area of inpaint, circa 1 1/2 inches in diameter, in the white linen on the sitter's shoulder at left. There is another very minor retouched loss of approximately 1/4 inch to the figure's forehead at right. The painting requires no further work and is ready to hang in its current state. Offered in a decoratively carved gilt wood frame in good condition.
