Roman School, circa 1630-1650

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This charming work should be hung in its current state. The slate is unbroken and flat, but there is a slight depression in the surface to the immediate right of the red apple. There are presumably restorations here. There are a few dark marks above the horizontal line above the fruit which seem to correspond to retouches; these are slightly visible under ultraviolet light. There may be a few retouches in the lower left and lower right corners. There seem to be very few retouches within the fruits themselves.
